Chevron furthers its commitment to the First Tee College Scholarship Program
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2026) – During today’s PURE Insurance Championship Pairings Party, Chevron announced a donation of $125,000 to First Tee, continuing its longstanding commitment to the First Tee College Scholarship Program. The gift marks 16 years of collaboration between Chevron and First Tee and brings the company’s total contributions to more than $5 million since 2011.
Launched in 2020, the First Tee College Scholarship Program has now served more than 143 young adults with ongoing mentorship, professional development, and financial support as they transition to and through college.
The program’s growing roster includes deserving recipients First Tee – Greater Houston’s Aarya Shewale and First Tee – Greater Austin’s Carlie Matengula, who were surprised this spring with invitations to join the Scholars program during an alumni gathering at The Chevron Championship in Houston, Texas.
Aarya, who is starting his freshman year studying aerospace engineering at Texas A&M University, spent eight years with First Tee – Greater Houston, earning Ace certification and founding the Katy Chess Academy, a service project that teaches kids life skills through chess. Carlie, who begins her political science studies at Baylor University this fall, spent seven years with First Tee – Greater Austin, most recently serving as a junior coach and building Tee Her Up, a golf clinic she created for 100 minority girls in her community.
Junior players in the PURE Insurance Championship also participated in a closest-to-the-pin contest on Tuesday at The Hay. Five male and five female winners each earned $2,000 in support of their local First Tee chapter, another example of Chevron’s commitment to community impact. As part of the $125,000 total donation to First Tee, Chevron is dedicating $5,000 to Girls Golf-related initiatives in honor of First Tee’s year-round support of LPGA Girls Golf Programs at chapters around the country.
“Chevron strongly believes in First Tee’s mission to empower young people through golf by building character, confidence, and essential life skills,” said First Tee Trustee and Chevron Chief Legal Officer Hewitt Pate. “We are proud to continue our longstanding support of First Tee and the First Tee College Scholarship Program, helping create opportunities for the next generation.”
Since becoming a First Tee Trustee in 2012, Chevron U.S.A. Inc. has steadily expanded its investment in the organization’s youth development programs. With this year’s donation, Chevron will have contributed over $1,000,000 to First Tee scholarships through The Chevron Challenge at the PURE Insurance Championship.
“Chevron’s support reflects a genuine investment in the future of the young people First Tee serves,” said Greg McLaughlin, CEO of First Tee. “Their support of the First Tee College Scholarship Program helps give participants the resources and confidence to pursue their ambitions well beyond the golf course.”
Hosted by Monterey Peninsula Foundation, the PURE Insurance Championship pairs PGA TOUR Champions players with First Tee juniors and amateurs from the business world in a unique event blending competition and mentorship. The tournament is broadcast live on Golf Channel.
