Chevron celebrates 15 years of collaboration with First Tee with an $100,000 donation to First Tee College Scholarship Program

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Sept. 16, 2025) – During today’s PURE Insurance Championship Pairings Party, Chevron announced a donation of $100,000 to First Tee, continuing the support of the First Tee College Scholarship Program. The donation marks a significant milestone: 15 years of collaboration with First Tee and over $4.7 million in total donations since 2011 to empower young people through golf.

Launched in 2020, the First Tee College Scholarship Program has now served more than 125 young adults with ongoing mentorship, professional development and financial support as they transition to and through college.

Two deserving recipients of these First Tee Scholarships are First Tee – Greater Houston alumnae Peyton DeBruin and Alexa Vela, who have both played in the PURE Insurance Championship. A former participant in The Chevron Championship Junior Legacy Pro-Am, DeBruin is starting her freshman year as a member of the Montana State University golf team. Vela, who was present at Pebble Beach to accept the donation on behalf of First Tee, is a senior at Rice University and founder of its club golf team. She recently completed a summer internship at the PGA TOUR in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. She joined one of The Chevron Championship’s executive panels in 2024 to share her experience and the impact First Tee has made on her.

“My journey from a shy and timid young girl, uncertain of her place, to a confident leader with a clear vision for her future has been profoundly shaped by the unwavering support and opportunities provided by First Tee and Chevron,” said Alexa.

For the third consecutive year, junior players in the PURE Insurance Championship also participated in a closest-to-the-pin contest on Tuesday. Five male and five female winners each earned $2,000 for their local First Tee chapter, further emphasizing Chevron’s efforts for community impact. In addition, Chevron is dedicating $5,000 to Girls Golf-related initiatives in honor of their year-round support of LPGA Girls Golf Programs at First Tee Chapters around the country. This year’s funding to First Tee through The Chevron Challenge totals $125,000.

“Chevron believes in the mission of First Tee to build character and teach life skills through the game of golf,” said First Tee Trustee and Chevron Vice President and General Counsel Hewitt Pate. “We’re proud to mark 15 years of collaboration and our continued support of the First Tee College Scholarship Program as it helps shape the leaders of tomorrow.” Chevron U.S.A. Inc. has been a First Tee Trustee since 2012.

With this year’s giving, Chevron has contributed over $900,000 to First Tee scholarships through The Chevron Challenge at the PURE Insurance Championship since 2018. In 2024 alone, First Tee reached more than 3.1 million kids and teens nationwide through its programs and school relationships.

“We are incredibly thankful to Chevron for its sustained commitment to First Tee and for helping our participants continue their journey beyond high school,” said Greg McLaughlin, CEO of First Tee. “Whether through financial assistance, mentorship or national events like The Chevron Championship, their support is truly helping to build game changers.”

Hosted by Monterey Peninsula Foundation, the PURE Insurance Championship pairs PGA TOUR Champions players with First Tee juniors and amateurs from the business world in a unique event blending competition and mentorship. The final round takes place at Pebble Beach Golf Links on Sunday and will be televised on Golf Channel.
